Domande frequenti:

In costruzione? …Invia rostra domanda e vedrò come riempire questo capitolo ;-)

-1

Nessun'altra differenza funzionale.

Question : Heeey ! Your try-Out version indexes only the first half of my videos (and puts the horrible application icon at the end of thumbnails!)

Answer : …yes, this is only a "try-Out version". The registred version indexes your whole video (and forgets to insert an "advertising icon" at the end of your thumbnails).
The trial version is for test purpose only, to let you decide about it ;-)

3

Question : Which videos are managed by MovieIndex?

Answer : all the ".mov" files that QuickTime is able to read (including your "editing formats: AppleIntermediateComponent & ProRes"). And the majority that the application "VLC" can read, from the most common (.flv, .mp4, .mpg, .mts, …) to the more exotic ones (.ogv, .webm, …).
You need a not-yet supported format? …Contact me.

Question : Why have I sometimes a "suspend" button, and not everytime?

Answer : MovieIndex generates thumbnails differently, depending on the nature of your files: those "only compatible QuickTime" and others.
Two different ways to proceed (which cause two minor different displays in the application).
To display the "pause" button -with non-QuickTime videos- would cause more discomfort (the app would not be responsive enough) than comfort. So no, the "suspend" button will be reserved only for some types of files.

Question : Why MovieIndex does not display milliseconds when I ask it to show "timecodes onto thumbnails" (it only displays "hours:minutes:seconds")?

Answer : For two reasons:

  • Utility. Do you really need it? …milliseconds accuracy is so important to you?
  • Technical reason. The millisecond precision is not desirable with some videos (those encoded in a very complex way). To avoid to generate an incomplete thumbnail (a gray, or with buggy pixels), MovieIndex uses video's "keyframes" to extract your thumbnails (a keyframe is a full picture, unlike other frames ;-)). So MovieIndex will extract thumbnails from keyframes only, and available keyframes may not correspond exactly to the required millisecond ;-).
(P.S.) MovieIndex currently has a limitation, only with interlaced AVCHD files. It could retrieve thumbnail from an incomplete picture. I have not found yet, how to identify precisely the keyframes position from these complex files (but only them). This will be fixed only… when I found the solution.
